Yeah its only the top the cylinder walls look fine. I am going to bring it to a machine shop and see what they say. I'm looking at repair cost of block and most likely of milling the head down too -vs- cost of new motor.

If you were getting any type of blow by out the breather, your piston is jacked too. Ive had one block decked and bored out to get rid of some detonation damage like that but wasnt as bad. Thats probably gonna require decking the block to the maximum amount allowed. Im sure it can be saved but a deck and bore and hone is in order. So if you want to put some oversize pistons in (aftermarket) then id say your block is still usable. 86.5mm should be plenty and a good deck job.

Here is a picture of the plugs I had in there - Cyl #4 plug is the middle with the greenish tip.

I'm trying to figure out how long its been running like this. I think the pistons are still in good shape.

surprised the plug lasted that long too without blowing off the ground strap. Its probably been running like that for a while. Detonation every time you get on it heavily. You are either too lean or have too much timing or both. Since the damage isnt on all id say more its probably a lean problem. Need to fix the tune or up fuel pressure significantly and probably back down your base timing a couple degrees, If you have the ability to fine tune then please do so.

The thing that's strange to me is detonation is usually on the intake side. Maybe this is more heat related...
