cv axle question...i looked first
I changed my drivers side axle yesterday on my 91 ser. It still has the orig LSD trans and i told them this at advanced auto. First off ive never done nothing like this before and tackled it with the help of the fourm. I didnt notice the little damper in the middle of the shaft like i just found out by searching and my biggest error i guess was takeing there word for it it was for a LSD trans.. Well long story short (iknow to late) i got it in ok and today i noticed a vibration that was not there before.

My question(s) are:

1. Will a non lsd axle go in if they didnt give me the right one?

2. If it dont have the damper could that be causing the vibration? I notice it more at low speeds then high....i did see somethin in a thread there could be a 30mph vibration?

3. Im almost positive i did everything correctly, It went in pretty good i could of swore i heard the two clicks and i did compare the old to the new and they looked alike. I didnt study the the spline length diffrence but i didnt notice anything out of the ordinary. There are no leaks anywhere and the vibration was not there before. Help please with any knowledge. I did the proper research before i did this because outside of a oil change and tuen up ive never done anything like this on my car. Will this hurt the car? Could it possibly fall out?

The front end is aligned properly and the tires were all just recently balanced. Thank you in advance.

well i searched and researched..crawled under the car again..no leaks for sure..its seated right for sure...but there is no dampner. I beleive this is the problem. At first i was worried about if i got the right axle to begin with (lsd vs non) but i have a buddy that works at the advanced store i go to and he rechecked the one they sold me was the lsd model and i looked at my old core it had the dampner...so im guessing its that. Like i said its only under acceleration ..or only noticelabe under acceleration that is to me

Magoo, do you have Auto Zone stores over there? Just wondering because I picked up both of my LSD axles at one here in Phoenix. They came with a lifetime warranty and surprisingly enough had the dampner on both of them with Nissan part #s. They are rebuilt by Cardone. You can get these online at Auto Zone's website, paid $60 a piece + core. Hope this can help some.

I got a passenger side from napa. It was cardone, and had a damper. Just make sure to ask for cardone. Go to napa man. I call stuff in there so I dont have to waste gas twice. It was 60 there too, but the core is about the same.

If it doesn't have the damper you can definitely notice it. Most people would not but if you know the car... axle rebuilds are just sooo cheap these days. Its a big problem for us as the supply is corrupted.

If it's not all scratched up and dirty maybe. You can try. Take it off and clean it spotless. You will also need the original box unless you swapped out your core, and put the old axle back in it. If so, then they will have to refund you the core or give your old axle back
