200sx se-r sputtering on start and dying
Ok guys i have a 96 200sx se-r today i blew the upper radiator hose and didnt know anything at first cuz my damn temperature gauge doesnt work. I got the hose and replaced it refilled with coolant/water and now when i go to start the car it just sputters and dies... any ideas? did i do major damage by driving it a couple miles til i saw smoke?

Hard to say, could be a fried sensor or something more mechanically that went out on you. I'd start by testing sensors against the FSM's specs and doing a compression and leakdown test to see what condition the motor's in. That should open up more information to get the problem pinned down.

Did you have any other issues, even minor, before the backfiring? Can you get the car to run longer by applying some throttle on starts?

yes if i start the car while giving it gas it idles fine but if i start it with giving it no gas the car just sputters and dies.

you have to burb all the air bubbles out of the coolant system try that.

test your coolant temp sensor, and see how close it is to the FSM specs. If that's giving bad readings the computer will freak out and give a horrible fuel mixture to compensate. Burping the system will help keep temps down, but won't affect starting.

it will affect your idle though.

Not really. It won't come into play until the engine's been running for a bit. Plus you're gonna want the engine to idle when you get all the air out of your system anyway.

alright guys so i went to go pull my car in and noticed that it is still leaking water. after the rough idle in the beginning the idle will go back to normal and its driveable but im worried about the water leaking i have no clue where its coming from all i know is that its dripping off of the oil pan could it be the water pump?
