I don't trust sleeved blocks because I never have had luck with them when used in actual racing other than drag racing with Nissans Hondas and LS Motors. Many have had excellent results on the street or for short run racing like drag racing.

Not me. I have an SR blocked at 90mm sleeved by one of the best machine shops that only does this sort of work. The sleeves dropped while just sitting in my garage even though the machine shop told me that he did many and this has never happened before. Needless to say this brand new block is still sitting. Anyone want to buy it?

Our LS powered drift car is aways dropping sleeves even though the machine shop says we have done hundreds of these and your is the only one to do this. Dropping sleeves may have cost us the Formula D championship.

Other friends who race Honda's and other things have problems when doing time attack or road racing.

My theory is that when the sleeve is pressed in, aluminum can peel up and sit on the bottom register acting like a spring so when the block is surfaced the sleeve is actually a little high. When in the motor and subjected to heat and combustion pressure, the little shavings compress and bammo you loose seal.

I think this is why the Darton MID sleeves are loose and not interference fit. Maybe I will try these but I am sorta sour on the whole sleeve thing. Also remember that cutting away your whole block also reduces the structural integrity of the whole thing.

Its sorta why I am kinda over the SR20. You can build a super rock strong K24 and easily make 280 na hp all day in any kind motorsports. The main reason why I still race Sentras is that they are really cheap to race and Nissan has a good racer support program.

as far as your views on sleeves go. im sure you use some really good guys. i actually had a in depth conversation with the sleeve company i used. i know youve heard of them if i said the name. he explained to me why sleeves drop and usually why darton/benson sleeves do it. he uses custom in house sleeves wich are physically stronger then what darton/benson or aebs has to offer due to the type of material they use. he also explained how darton or aebs has the top "t" part of the sleeve bigger (part thats exposed on the deck) to fool your average person into thinking the sleeve is that thick all the way threw. he mentioned dartons mid sleeves and why they drop because they are some what floating, also along with them using jb weld. he said his sleeves have two steps opposed to dartons one step wich insure his dont drop. very insightful discussion. we used sleeves on drag motors with 0 issues. well see how my block does, i dont forsee any issues what so ever on my 92x92.

The correct way to do the sleeves is to machine the block to 35 micro smaller than the sleeves diamter. The sleeve need to have a shamver wat the bottom due to the cutter not being able to cut perfect 90 deg and always have a rond edge at the bottom. When pressing them in that have a tendance to lift the sleeve.

I warm the block to 200 deg C and drop them in while the block is warm. Then have a deck plate to clamp the new sleeves down while the slowly cool donw. I have done a dozen blocks personlly and haven;t had any issues

exactly derm, that is a very important step that i believe alot of companys dont do. they just press the sleeve in raw, let the glue set, bore, hone and ship out the block.

Benson's sleeves register at the deck and the bottom and I havent had good results. Stratton, who is your guy? I am so wary of the whole thing since I have been burned. I also think that road racing and pro drifting is much harder on things than street use and drag racing except at very high levels. Derm have you had any luck with road racing and long duration at WOT event sleeved blocks?

Mike Yes. We do circuits racing here in South Africa. And ever since I install them the "oven way" I didnt had any problems!!

To come back to your K24 making 280hp no problem day in and day out. I build one for a friend mine and yes, it is easy power BUT its not cheap, On the other hand I build a sr24ve, And is only making 20hp less. The biggest diffs being the k25 has a compression of 13.7 to 1 and run on Methanol and the sr has 12.5 to1 and run on 95!!

The k24 uses custom itb with injectors infront of the itb and the sr just the ones in the itb's

So yes I dont think sr20ve head design is so much "worse" than the K20A head!!!

can someone shed some light on what machine work is needed to make these rods work? i thought we can only go 5mm longer without having to remove a ring.
