Isn't a good battery read going to show good alternator, not starter? You can have a 100% good and functioning battery and still have a shot starter...

All that test will show is that the battery can give enough voltage to the starter, it does not tell you the condition of the starter. Starters will either work or not work according to these tests. If you can somehow tell how your starter is doing based on reads from the battery, it's news to me.

Nope, no way to really tell from a system voltage check, if the starter is good or not.

thats what I went through before I decided to buy the redtop,, I went to 2 different autoshops even left my egg sitting at one shop all day, they said everything was in working order but the next morning the dang burnt egg would'nt start! the battery was holding a charge during the test and the altenator was checking out with good amps and I had already replaced the starter... a month is what it took to get that monkey off my back

good luck, I hope you figure it out fast

the thing is that lets say its starts up fine. then i when i drive to a gas station and pump gas, its doesnt turn on right away. so its like an on and off thing. i thought before it was the fuel pump.

Yup. Starter issue. On my previous B14 my starter was giving me those issues and one day it would not start back up at all. Replaced the starter and it was good up until my B14 got killed by some old lady =( ...... My new B14 is starting to do the same. If you have or you THINK you have the original starter then I am pretty sure thats your issue right there.

Hit the starter with something a couple times and see if it's better.

Alright. Are you saying it tries to crank (excessively) over but will not fire, or are you saying it will not even crank at times when its acting up?

basically. when it doesnt turn on, i keep turning the key back and fourth a few times then cranks up. i hear the clicking noise also when i try.

P.S. i have auto tranny :o

the clicking noise is most likely the relay under the dash... mine did the 3-4 times back forth before it would start too. dang it I hope you find this bug ..

I'm curious to hear what it is.. just for laughs ,, have you tried a fresh battery for a few days yet?.
not trying to be a pest about the battery thing but I swear the exact thing your going through I have been there to. I was told from my redtop rep that cell batteries can go bad and take months to die, he also said that a cell could weak and causing the momentary lack of voltage but after a few cycles of jolts(turningthekey) it may work ...
