I installed it hooked, left it hooked and bundled everything back up. I know it unhooked itself since there is tension on the chain now.

I did not release it myself.

The FSM says to unhook it after everything is tight, before you put the VC on.

Mmmm

In my FSM it says

"Make sure the camshaft sprockets are tighetned completely.
Press cam stopper down and "press-in" sleeve until hook can be engaged on pin. When tensioner is bolted in position the hook will release automatically. Make sure arrow "A" points toward engine front."

damn greg v works FAST, ordered the n1 tensioner monday got it today and installed it today.

i got good advice from viprdude on how to do the install, i used his method that his fsm said to leave the clip on the plunger and start the car, i pulled the valve cover off and checked it and it released just fine. very easy to install.

Hooray! I am glad that it worked out exactly how it worked for me. The FSM and some friendly advice go a long to. I like the insurance trick with popping the valve cover to check.

I noticed a decrease in an already noisy valve train and the chain was more taught when I popped the valve cover.

And another plus to Greg V for his awesome shipping speed, prices, etc...
