Does it only do this when the engine is cold? Or can you let it idle until it warms up and then it drives fine? Check your ECU for stored codes. What is the year and engine of your car? All OEM or have you swapped out major components/deleted emissions equip? Do you live in a state where corrosion is an issue (bad grounds)? How long has it been this way, does it do it every time?

it does it when its cold too now, ill have to gas it little bit before it goes to regular idling,

but the problemt starts when i drive it for a bit, when it warms up it is the worst.when it is warm and im at a light, it most likely will shut off if i dont have my foot on pedal

96 infiniti g20, dont know what type of engine, sr 20 i think.

live in california

I was having stalling issues once my engine warmed up, for example it would stall when I pushed in the clutch as I slowed for a stop sign. It turned out to be a combination of three things: Bad engine to chassis grounds, bad MAF, and bad MAF ground. Cleaning the grounds is free and not too difficult, as is running a new groundwire from the MAF to the intake manifold. MAFs are expensive. I would look for vacuum leaks before you swap MAFs, unless you have a friend who has one you can try out. Another possible source is the IACV, which may need to be cleaned. While free (except for the new gasket), cleaning the IACV, or more specifically getting it on and off the engine, is a major pain in the ass.
I tend to bumble around the engine bay until I find the problem, so my methods might not be the best to follow. Anyway, it's a bit of a starting point until someone who actually knows what they are talking about posts up.

Check your codes first.

I honestly have no idea if it is the crankshaft position sensor, I've never had to deal with it. Are the 96's OBDI or OBDII? If it is OBDII, then you need to connect an engine code reader and it will tell you the codes. If it is OBDI, then you need to get to the ECU, which is to the right of your foot when it is on the gas pedal, in between the driver and passenger footwells. You'll have to unbolt it to spin it around as the light is facing the firewall. Then you have to turn the screw in the proper order to get the light to flash. Something like turn all the way counter-clockwise and then all the way clockwise. Make sure you get the proper directions as I don't recall them and you don't want to mess it up.
