I've done this on all my CAI's, even went so far as to do a simple test on a QR I had and drove it on city streets (stop and go) pulled it in my garage and checked the intake mani temp. with one of these: Fluke 561 infrared IR thermometer HVAC Pro

Applied wrap to all the piping I could and went out and drove the same route and pulled it in my garage and jumped out and checked the manifold temp. again and it was almost 20 degrees colder.

Very un-scientific test I know, but it told me want I wanted to know, never did notice any power increase or milage increase from it though......

As far as it looking like pooh, to me thats all in the eye of the beholder. Which it never bothered me how it looked but I'm analy anti rice/bling, to a fault!
