ok kool guys thanx yall have been very helpful, i guess it all comes down to what i really want to do im going vvl later on so i just want to be ready for it

I think 06/07my wrx muffler is the same except it says wrx instead of STi on the side of the tip.

I've got an 05 STi catback on my Forester and I love it but imo that can is too heavy for an SE-R. They are dirt cheap. I think mine cost $40 for the whole catback.

My understanding is that the internals of the wrx muffler are a bit smaller than the STi muffler. I think I read that somewhere on this board, or the voices in my head are telling me this.

To the OP: Here is a link to my STi muffler update. In the pics you can see the original magnaflow supplied by VRS and the 2.5" SS piping. The STi muffler is alongside it, as described by the pics:
