I have never fiddled with the power steering system. To the best of my knowledge fluid hasn't even been added to the system in around 80,000 miles. I never even checked the level until 10 minutes ago. So I looked around near the oil leak shown in the pic in the first post. I saw what is in the first picture. I believe that is for the power steering? Looks like it has leaked in the past. The second picture shows oil accumulated on the trans around the speedo cable, I'm not sure if that helps pinpoint more where the primary leak is coming from? The next two pics show how low the PS fluid is and that some leaked from the PS reservoir itself in the past. I'll fill that up tonight. What do you guys think about the sources of the leaks based on this info? Onto the pics:

say you have at least a distributor o-ring leak, probably more also, hard to tell. It's really not that hard to trace a leak if you consider gravity, ect.

Update: This leak is still active. I replaced the distributor o-ring and am now not getting any leak from there. I didn't see any other places where oil was emanating from the engine, so I figured it must be the trans. I planned on topping off the trans to see how much it took, but it started dripping out of the fill hole after I took the plug out, so I'm clearly not losing any from the trans.

I can follow the oil trail to the motor mount on the x-beam near the firewall, from there I can't see anything. I run my oil around 7k miles between changes and I haven't been missing much. It only drips while in motion, my garage floor is spotless.

My trans use to look like that and it turned out being the striker seal where the shift rod comes out of the trans. Fixed that and its staid 100% dry..

Take it to a car wash with appropriate drain traps for oil and grime. Take off all the splash guards and cover/remove all the water sensitive parts. Jack the car up and put the front on jackstands. Soak everything with simple green and/or degreaser. Go to town with the high pressure soap and blast everything clean enough to eat off of.

This makes oil leaks MUUUUCH easier to locate.

Care to explain how you replaced it, did you have to open the trans up?

I replaced that seal once is called striking rod oil seal just remove the boot and you should see a pin remove it and pull everything back. then remove the seal with a flat screwdriver and to install find a socket close or the same diameter of the new seal and just hammer it in place carfully and case closed! i think i'm having the same issue with my sr16 tranny right now... but its ez! GOOD LUCK!

Looks more like grease than oil, sure it's not a CV?

I agree with those saying it's a trans seal if that is the only place the oil is at and of course it's gear oil/tran fluid that is on the boot.
