TPS mischief and mayhem
OK, so I am still working on my 94 B13 SR20DE. Been having issues and situations with this thing for a minute. ECU through two fault codes of a bad knock sensor and bad O2 sensor so got those changed out.

I am having trouble with timing the vehicle because I can't get my TPS dialed in right as seen in the picture. With the throttle wide open I get a NEGATIVE voltage reading. As I open the throttle the voltage reading does down and that's not supposed to happen. The TPS was purchased by a member of this forum and was told that it was a working part.

Has anyone run into this problem before? I ask because perhaps there are some little things out there that I don't know about pertaining to the ECU or timing. I have researched on the forum and have seen other guys having similar issues....input appreciated.

From personal experience if your tps is bad your car will run extremely poorly. When mine was bad after it got warm it would buck like crazy and would take a lot of throttle to increase rpms. So your tps should be fine if everything is running good.

Checking and setting the TPS i prefer to do with a consult connection to the ECU. Simply because it doesn't matter what you read at the TPS itself, its the signal the the ECU receives that matters when it comes down to it. Doing it this way means you know that the ECU is seeing the right voltages.

If you have to have the TPS adjustment at the maximum just to get things close to spec from the readings in the ECU, then you can start looking at the wiring or the TPS itself for a problem.

make sure the pin on the tps is actually moving with the butterfly and not in front of it.

I agree that it's better/easier to read the TPS voltage from though the OBD port using a consult or software like Nissan Datascan. Are you sure that you have the multimeter hooked up to the correct wires? If so, you need to try another TPS.
