Draining the Fuel Tank
Hey everyone. I'm working on getting my NX on the road. ITs been sitting since like 05 from what I know. I think draining that old fuel would probably be a good idea.

Suggestions on how to go about this? I've never done this with any of my b13's and I'd rather not drop the tank. If anybody has done this let me know how you went about it. THanks.

I did this on my B14 when I bought it...Idk If I did it the right or easy way, but I just pulled the access cover for the fuel pump, and stuck a hose from the shopvac into it, dumped about a half gallon more into it, and swished it around a bit to get the rest of the dirt loose, and shopvac'd it again.

I've heard of people using a shop vac, but I'd be careful:

I think they sell hand pumps so you can do the siphoning bit without actually using your mouth.

ive even seen one you put into a drill and just use a drill to run the pump. pretty nifty.

Edit: found a pic of one. said in big words "Do Not Use With Flammable Liquids" so id go the non lazy way and use the one isfahan said lol.

You can always drill a hole in the bottom of the tank, and then plug it up after :P

I should note there was less than a half gallon in the tank when I started, and then exactly a half gallon on the second run lol. I would NEVER attempt this with any good amount of gas in the tank..

id definitely get as much liquid as possible before attacking it with a shopvac.

depending how bad it is inside, you might need to drop it.
few pointers.....

Fuel liquid isn't the danger, it is the gas/vapor.

Not the case when you have liquid running through a shopvac that is using a coil type electric motor. Obviously there will be some spark, which can easily ignite the liquid.

Why not just disconnect the fuel line from your engine and turn the key? Your fuel pump will kick on and suck the tank dry pretty quick.
