Easy as pie. Hopefully, it was the same problem that you are experiencing and I am about 99% sure we had the same thing going on. (Even had the same drip marks on the EGR tube!)

I did the same on my 92 project. Oil was EVERYWHERE when I picked up the car. Total failure of the ring at the bottom. I didn't mark anything. Just on and off. I also replaced the rotor and the cap.

Shortly after this inquiry, I got a cold followed by gout. Been down for a good three (3), nearly four (4), weeks. Still slightly limping. If you are unfamaliar with gout, be thankful.

O-ring either this weekend or early next week. Soon as I can move around a bit easier.

Looking forward to your update. I have this exact leak myself. I lose a quart of oil every 3k miles or so. But I also have VC and oil pan leak. Spring can't get here quick enough.

Turns out I might have the exact same leak. I might tackle it this weekend, along with doing my timing for the first time myself. I'll let you know how it goes!

Edit: Sorry to hear about the gout, that is not a nice thing. Hope you get better quickly!

Should fresh oil be put on the distributor o-ring before it goes back in, similar to putting oil on the oil filter o-ring?

It's a good idea to lube it up Isfahan. Not completely necessary though.

There will probably be some oil in the channel that receives the distributor shaft, but I always put some oil on the O-ring anyway. Don't forget to mark the location of the distributor against the mounting bracket so you can get your timing back in the right range.
