would this raise an eyebrow for you?
I recently had an engine assembled and installed... While breaking in the motor there was a hiccup and the engine had to be disassembled! The engine builder was unavailable so I had another builder disassemble it... Upon pulling it down the second builder notified me that there was someting unusual about the ring wear. He said the rings were only wearing on one side but I should continue to break in as eventually it will wear evenly.

the second builder is almost if not just as good as the first builder based on word of mouth but it also could be that both engine builders are cobblers... are rings wearing more on one side something to be disconcerned with?

How the hell does he know they are wearing on one side only? In modern engines like ours the cross-hatch on the cylinder walls are very shallow and see almost no perceptible wear throughout the first 50k - 100k miles.

engine had only gone 350 miles at the time... and to be technical he said rings wore and no mention was made of cylinder walls... should I ask him about that?

Possibly once the cylinder walls smooth out it will let the ring wear better.

Many rings come with a black coating on them as the rings wear into the cylinder the coating is worn off exposing shine,.
where is it unevenly wornout from top to bottom or the circumference of the rings?

so gio, would this explain the random drop in cylinder pressure?

I would want to know about the cylinder walls.

The rings showing wear on one side and not on the other is really, really odd. Rings typically spin in the cylinder even during break-in and wear evenly all around. Yes, something sounds quite wrong. It makes me think maybe some bore work was done without a torque plate or something similar that would make the cylinders out of round.

Something is not right in my opinion.
