Engine stalling when cold + declutching
Hey guys, hope you can help me.

Since I've bought my NX (2.0 GTI), I've had the following problem once in a while, but more often now it's getting colder.

Whenever I start the motor, it takes a few seconds (and really a few, it's not like the starter cranks the motor more than 5 times) before it starts. She'll idle normally, but when I start driving a short distance, and press the clutch (because of trafficlight, or just coasting to slow down or something), and let the throttle go, the revs just drop, and the engine stalls.

If I declutch, and keep on giving throttle, she won't die, but as soon as I release the throttle, she does.

I've hooked het up to Nissan Datascan a few months ago, and it said I had a dead Neutral switch, and a skittery TPS (a few 1/10ths of a V off).

Any ideas?

She has new sparkplugs, btw. Haven't changed the dizzy or cables yet.

IACV more then likely man, put the ecu into idle adjust mode with datascan and bump the idle screw up, if that dont work it msy need cleaning.. You guys dont have egr right? so can eliminate that prob.

also check the timing with a timing light and make sure its right

Timing should be 17*.

I'll have a look at the IACV, thanks!

thats really the only thing it can be if you dont have egr and really if its gone bad you can bypass it.. the morning starts arent very exciting but once its warm it wont stall..

I've been fighting this problem for months and am interested in your results. I cleaned the IACV, fixed a vacuum leak, cleaned the throttle body, double checked the voltage going to the MAF, grounded the hell out of my engine (engine to body), and put in a new O2 sensor with dedicated ground. Finally I adjusted my idle screw up and that has mostly covered up the problem. I say covered up because I don't think it lets the revs drop as quickly due to the original problem, so it doesn't stall as often. However, every now and again it does. I'm also getting a strong gas smell in the engine bay when it does it, so I'm not sure if I have a bad injector flooding it when the engine should be under vacuum? Is that even possible? Good luck and let us know what you find.

Check your engine ground wires.

Wow, new problem, probably related.

I managed to keep the engine running a few times, by applying throttle. When I let go, it dies.

However, when I keep revving it, she will sound like a few (if not all) cilinders aren't firing. When I do this while driving, and clutched normally, there is a big powerloss. Like there's a cilinder that's not firing.

Again, this is only when the motor is cold, after a few minutes (or less) all goes back to normal.

Plugs are brand new (changed them after we tried doing a compression check last summer, and found out that the plugs I had in the engine then, were kinda rusty).

You really think it could be compression related?
