lsd tranny?
Can somebody please tell me how I can know if I have an LSD transmission? I need axles and I need to be sure that I get the right ones... thanks in advance!

A.) Spin the tires and see if you have one mark or two marks on the ground.

B.) Get under the car and see if you can see the holes or openings where the axles meet the trans unit. If they are the same size, it has no lsd. If the openings are different sizes, I think you have LSD.

Or tell us what car it is.

sorry
It's a b13 se-r but with a sr20ve and I was told b13 lsd 5 speed... but there were a few other things I was told that have not been true... so I'm just trying to be sure it really is before I buy new axles and have them shipped... thanks!

Jack the car up on one side in neutral and try and spin the wheel that is off the ground by hand. If it spins it's an open-diff, if not it's a vlsd diff. I have a vlsd and I can undo the wheel nuts with one wheel off the ground even when it's cold so you shouldn't be able to spin it if it is a vlsd diff. But yea the bulge where the shorter axle goes into the gearbox will be a sure sign of what diff is in there.

Well, did you figure it out? I am interested in what method you chose to find out.

Well, did both, burn out yielded two nice big black marks, jacked it up and with one wheel held the other will spin but it takes effort, with both in the air one will spin the other??? I'm thinking LSD....

Yea with both in the air I think if I spin mine the other wheel will spin the same way. But with an open diff I think it will spin the other wheel in the opposite direction. But I think if you did the burn out test and you made two black lines you will have an lsd in there.
