vibration in reverse and warmup
hi all. tried searching but didn't find what i was looking for.

car is a 92 sentra ser w/ about 150k. there is a rough vibration that can be heard throughout the car when you reverse. it also vibrates quite heavily when it's warming up or when its decelerating in gear(engine braking). seems to go away when the engine is warm, except when you reverse.

also if you have the hood open with the engine running, if you push down on the engine on the passenger side, you can sort of reproduce the groaning sound. is this indicative of a bad pass. side motor mount? i looked at the mount and it looks fine and the motor doesn't move back and forth when its under load.

any ideas?

The mount will either be sagging badly or torn. If it's oil soaked as well then just assume it's bad. Oil destroys rubber. If you can't tell for sure stick a pry bar up there and try and move pry up on a solid part of the motor or tranny and see how much movement it has. It should have some movement but not a bunch. I replaced all four of my mounts a few months ago, when I pulled out the rear mount the bolt hole fell out of mount, it was that bad, lol.

I just checked all four mounts, i forgot to pry on it but they all look really good. no deterioration, not sagging, motor doesn't move much under load if i have the hood open and have it in reverse or first feathering it. can a mount be bad even if it doesn't look bad?
