I went off of the recommendation of who I purchased the transmission from, and someone who is well respected in the SR community. I doubt the fluid had anything to do with it.

The one above is super impressive! Yea all my teeth were by the shifter and the internal semi circle magnet which made shifting difficult.

I broke mine with the setup in my sig at about 18psi (falling to 12psi). Basically I was getting on it in third gear and it was starting to spin so I slammed it into fourth (didn't mis-shift, just a fast shift on power) and the tires chirped caught traction and then the engine went to redline. I knew what it was when it happened...

I'm getting good at pulling it, had it out and apart in about an hour and a half.

It wasn't bad when I was just throwing B13/B14 transmissions in there, but being 20 years old and in college I can't just throw another $1000 or more for a new transmission at the car.

I would like to know where you guys are finding the QG18 transmissions for a couple hundred bucks though, I can only find them for $400-$600 around here.

Nothing, they are open diff and they don't bolt up to SR20 engines...

But, the gear stacks are the same as a P11 transmission and swap right in on those. I'm less fortunate in that I have a B15 box, so I have to use the final drive ring gear from a B13/B14 transmission to get my LSD to mate up to the final drive pinion gear on the new stacks... I can however put my fifth gears onto the new stacks for a super long 5th.

There isn't anything better about it, other than they are much cheaper to buy and use as a donor than to just replace the entire B15/P11 trans. Just have to be easier on it next time.

If you are paying over $400 for a QG transmission you are getting ripped off. You can find whole transmissions on car-part.com for $200-$400 all day long.

Very low mileage <40K miles for $400-450 at the most. High mileage 80K+ will come in at $150-250.

What's the best way to know if it is actually the right transmission I am looking at?

Look it up in my area, I'm in KS, zip code 67211. On car-part the cheapest I have seen is $250 and that is with 120000 miles.

Edit: There is one for 225 about 2.5 hours away from me with low miles.

I sheared the teeth off both of my 4th gears in my B13 trans back in March I think, it sucked. I wasn't even driving hard. I was passing somebody on the highway, don't think I even hit boost (if so, less than 4psi), and I felt a breaking point, and then it snapped back in and kept going. I put it in 5th gear all the way home till about a mile from my home, then I downshifted, wasn't even able to hit boost before it went. Babied it the rest of the way home in 3rd... The gear was basically just like yours. Hopefully I never experience this in my '01 P11 trans...

Good luck on the gear stack swap. It's not a bad option at all! Much much cheaper than a P11 or another B15 I imagine.

I had planned on picking up a QG tranny today, but I got a call from the guy saying that they had dropped it off the pallet and that it was busted. They wanted $450 at first, I talked them down to $300, and then it falls about 40ft. Awesome! I asked if it was just the case that was busted but it broke gears too. They say they will have another for me tomorrow which I hope is in great condition.
