Can anyone help with a ga16 problem?
My brother just bought a 97 200sx SE for $1300. Car is in great shape, but it has a small problem. It wouldnt rev past 3,000 rpm so I figured dirty maf. Pulled it out and cleaned it and now the car will rev to 4500 and hits the same wall. Car is not throwing a check engine light.

Any ideas?

Looks like the original maf, so I'm thinking it may be fried. Weird its not throwing a light though.

Try to borrow a known working one from someone

It might be in safe mode, leave the battery unplugged for a few hours and it should clear the ghost code

It definitely sounds like a MAF problem. My car doesn't throw a fault code with a malfunctioning/unplugged MAF. Try re-grounding it or maybe checking the voltages off it.

best thing would to go to a junk yard and get another maf, make sure its the right one, then replace it. if you feel that the existing maf isnt correctly working right.

We disconnected the battery last night and it went away then came back after about 10 minutes of driving. Can these ghost codes show up on a code scanner. We might just replace the maf anyway.

This also might be the CAS sensor on a GA16DE either that or the MAF. It should be popping and bad revving etc. Might idle fine. I am not aware of rev limits in limp mode on the GA16DE. If it still is a OBD1 car you might want to check engine codes with the help of a paperclip. On the other hand, that probably won't throw a code for the MAF or CAS.
