thats a good read. Just like my built motors, i usually dont put more than a couple heat cycles on the rings before i start getting on it. Again its not like your bearings have to wear in or any of that. Only thing is making sure the rings get seated from a couple heat cycles and your good to go.

When i pulled my pistons out after 10k miles of torture my pistons looked exactly like the second piston from the left in that photo of all the pistons. NO side skirt wear or scratches, no sign of any detonation, other than carbon on the top it was in perfect shape. My bearings were the same way.

Im a firm believer in give a few times getting up to engine temp and running the engine under 4k and let it cool down. Then give it hell.

So what if you only have a base map to start it on? Will that seat the rings without damaging the pistons? Is it safe to drive like that under 4k rpm?

I'm just asking because I want to begin my first motor build soon. I wanna do a vet and not eff it up.

what if you use new berings and rings, but dont change the mail seals? Will they go bad from running synthetic, then mineral oil, then synthetic again? I heard its bad for seals to go from synthetic back to mineral oil.

ive known alot of guys whom just have a basemap first before completely tuning the motor and they have broken their motor in just like that.

as long as the basemap runs decent as in not floodingly rich or too lean then it should be fine. Couple heatcycles then tune it for WOT runs.

link makes a lot of sense. why wait to tune? i've edited my original response. thanks for the knowledge.
