Dude just hot wire it and put a push-button start on the dash. Not very thief-proof, but really, really cheap!

Can you pull the key out when the car is running? If so it sounds exactly like mine. I'm assuming that the whole barrel is worn out to the same extent my key is (quite alarming to compare it the the stashed spare). My understanding is the key won't make contact with the barrel any longer and thus wont start the car. I'd thought it was an electrical issue but when it does click on it's the same old rrr, rrr,VROOM that it's always done. Sometimes jiggleing the key works to get it to engage.

back when i knew nothing about working on a car, i need mine replaced. my problem was just the switch, but my mechanic said for the same price he was just going to replace the whole thing with one from a junkyard. he charged $100-$150 for everything. i have 2 keys for my car though...i just put an extra ring on the key for the ignition to tell them apart.
