alxe seal woes
so i finish my engine swap finally and im filling up all the fluids and i smell 80-90 oh no. its my passenger side axle seal. i forgot to replace it. now im having trouble with the angles and doin it on the ground plus for the life of me i cant get the inner lip to stop pushing out instead of going over the shaft in the trans. i use a tiny pick at work but its not helping here. is there different axle seals for different trannys? its out of a 92 ser so its lsd. i just cant help but be frustrated with this. my axle seal is having an anal prolapse. and yes it was lubed up very well and straight.

I am having trouble understanding your problem based on your description. The last time I put in a new seal, it was loose in the bore and kept sliding into the trans. I ended up putting gasket sealer on the outside and waiting a day for it to set up. Then, I carefully slid the axle in place. All this was with the car on stands in my garage.

I can't really understand what is happening here. There are several different seals though. Hope you got the right one.

there is something very wrong then. The seal is press fit and is very tight. It needs to be tapped in straight and flush with the outside housing.

passenger side axle seals are a PITMFA! best way i could suggest doing it is to drop the tranny.. i know next time i do one thats what im doing..

^+1 Even on a rack it is a bitch. Oh and one other piece of advise, always get the seal from the dealer, they never fit right/seal right after market.

i did get them from gregv i just cant get it over the shaft thats sticking partially out of the trans theres no way its supposed to sit flush with the case there would be nothing holding the fluid in. the hole in the seal is way bigger than the end of the axle,
am i missing something?

Find some way to support the engine. Undo front and rear motor mounts. Drop the crossmember, and get the rear trans mount out of the way. Plenty of room to work then.

That's how I finally had to do it. Wasn't that bad, and made it soooo much easier.

thanks everyone but i figured out my issue, the previous owner of the tranny used the wrong shaft somehow. one without the carrier and when he shoved it in it pushed the seal deep in there. so when i looked at how it was in there to begin with i assumed it was right. so i tried to get the new seal all the way in and over the little metal rod that sticks partially out of the trans and messed the seal up. and advance gave me a seal that had too big of a center hole so to the dealer tomorrow i go. but my sentra is now sr20 powered and i cant wait to drive it many many problems with the swap, wiring, belts, seals, exhaust bolts u name it and it went wrong. but im happy now and thanks again all of u
