Thread: oil catch can pcv 20v valve cover question

OK thanks ben. So as of now. Im just going to leave the hose going from the pcv to the intake manifold alone, one hose, no T's. So if i wanna run this catch can properly Ben, can i take the hose from the top right of the valve cover that usally connects into the intake to the catch can for the 1st port then take the 2nd hose going from the bottom of the vc to the block, can i just put a cap on where it drains back to the block and run that hose of the bottom of the valve cover to the 2nd port on the catch can. Will this be ok?

thanks for taking the time to explain things. Ive always been a little confused about this system and how to go about it even with all the searchin and stuff, everyone seems to use a diff setup up

You should be confused, Nissan engineers thought about this crap for our USDM cars 20 years ago. I am sure they knew what they were doing, mostly.

Okay good.

Like I said, if you absolutely insist, you can put a catch can between the PCV valve and the intake manifold if you really, really want.

PCV valve -> hose -> port 1 on catch can -> catch can -> port 2 on catch can -> hose -> intake manifold nipple

You'll just have to figure the drain out yourself. Drain it periodically, or run a hose to the bottom of your engine bay and just drip oil as you drive down the road, or figure something else out.

Now you've got me completely confused.

My hunch is "no it won't work" but really I'd love it if you could explain better what you're suggestion is. Use way more nouns instead of pronouns and assume I'm an idiot. Explain it to me again like I'm dumb and then I'll let you know if it's a good idea or not.

I've got client work to do right now, but I'll get to it ASAP.

well i dont have a exsisting oil seperator there and when i take of that hose that connects for the bottom right of the 20v valve cover that goes to the block. I see alot of oil in there. So i was just going to route it to the catch can. I doubt it will help because all its doing is going back into the block really.

PCV valve -> hose -> port 1 on catch can -> catch can -> port 2 on catch can -> hose -> intake manifold nipple

i get the 1st part of it, pcv hose directly to port one of catch can and plug the intake manifold nipple right. But what about the second port

As you should. It's carrying oily vapors from the right side of the block up to the valve cover area for evacuation by the PCV system. The oil separator for that line is inside the valve cover. The hump on the cover closest to you is one long oil separator. The oily vaopr pass through that and most of the oil is separated. Then the vapors go through the second hump on the valve cover (away from you as you look at the engine) and even more of the oil gets separated out before finally the vapors leave the valve cover on the top-right (or the top left during partial throttle conditions).

You don't need any oil separators. Nissan took care of it.

No don't plug the intake manifold nipple. Holy crap.

Port two would go to the intake manifold. Just wait for some pictures... =D

so ur saying for port 2 on catch can, run a hose back to the nipple of the intake manifold where the pcv would usaully connect to? and yes pics please

but if i ran the second hose from the catch can back to the intake manifold wouldnt that be sucking it back up since its vaccum. I have a lowport btw
