Rocker arm came loose after overrev
Well, about 8 months ago I over-reved my se-r after a misshift. Right after it happened, I found a great deal on a turbo se-r, purchased it, and left the old one sitting in the driveway.

I finally decided to pop off the VC and and see what the problem was. My turbo car is down for upgrades, so it seemed like a good idea to get this one back running. Fortunately, all that I found was a rocker just sitting there that came loose and was banging around. I cant find anything else wrong. The rocker appears to be intact. The cam looks ok. Other than some gouging on the girdle, everything looks ok. Check out the pictures and see what you think. If everything looks ok, is this just a matter of removing the exhaust cam, and reinstalling the rocker? This was a high mileage motor. It would sure be nice to have this car back on the road. Any help would be appreciated.

all you have to do is get the shims, dig in there with a magnet, they are in there somewhere i can bet you. I doubt they fell down into the pan but its always a possibility. I usually find mine hidden under the castings.

You dont even need to remove the cam to do this on the #3 and #4

All you need to do is loosen the cam cap bolts in sequence and the cam will lift up. You will need to put the motor with that #3 exhaust cam lobe point upwards. Then you can loosen the cam caps and the cam will raise up enough to put the rocker back under the lobe and onto the lifter, put the shims back in place and set the rocker on. Then tighten down and torque the cam cap bolts in tightening sequence.

Just dont fully loosen the cam cap bolts.

I did this in 15 minutes at the dragstrip onetime, lost #3 after an over rev during a mis shift and thought i was done for the night. I popped the valve cover, saw the rocker laying there in once single piece and no significant damage, found the shims, put it in and went and did another 5 passes and had a great night. Its easy.

that motor is nice and clean, it's a shame to let it sit

Thanks guys. I will look for the shims tomorrow. It would be awesome if I can get this car working again. I may not actually keep it, as I really need the money, and it would be a lot easier to sell if it was running lol. But even with 189k, its in decent shape. No sunroof, factory no ac, CA car its whole life with no rust. Its a blast to drive though with the headers, exhaust, intake.

Stock cams on this car. I have S4s on my turbo car (Thanks Ashton!)

1st time with 3 broken rockers, I found one shim in oil pan, the rest under the valve cover.
2nd time just a thrown rocker, I found one up top, and one here:

Hopefully yours are under the valve cover and you don't have to remove the oil pan!
