a couple fyi's
the (presumably) aluminum shavings could be from the shift forks. (thanks to chris), i learned something today
the lsd unit is a sealed unit within the case so, the 4 qts of whatever you dump in has no effect on the lsd itself.
gl figuring it out.

I know this is not really any of my business, but I am all about trying to help people out on here.We sr guys need to help eachother out.,but I am confused by this statement,Miko.
Isn't this guy a customer,too?
Talk about downtime....this poor guy has been going through hell with his car.
Maybe you mean you have axles for your FRIENDS in Miami, not customers

I am NOT trying to start any crap, just confused by that....Miko please explain.
I guess I am missing something.
If I were closer I would hook this guy up and just get another one to replace it right away.
No downtime that way unless there is a car apart right now in your driveway.

uhhhh well... can you maybe explain why people have problems with the lsd chattering when they use the wrong fluid, example: GL5..

i personely had that problem, an while researching found that many others have had the same issues..

well basically the reason ive had so many problems with my car is because i had someone help me replace the engine in it, and clutch, at the time i was working and it was more beneficial for me to work than take time off (i work seasonal) which in the long run i should have just taken the time off an did it right myself, than to trust one of my friends that is actually going to school for automotive, at this point with my cars i would rather do it my self that way i cant get mad if someone else did something wrong, i was trying to take the cheap way
.
since i replaced the engine in february, the engine was not getting enough oil pressure (idiot left the bolts loose on the pickup tube), put gl-5 in the trans, i have an oil leak where the timing chain comes around and sprays oil out the top of the front cover (fuxed with rtv), there were 22 random bolts missing in brackets and connections around the engine, messed up the distributor
.
what ive learned from that is to not let anyone touch my car but myself, also im kind of hesitant to let anyone touch my car, including miko, sorry even though i should have in the long run
.
my guess is miko is mad that i didnt just take the car to him in the first place, thats why im probably not on the top of the list, just my guess, no offence or anything miko
.
but if i do end up keeping my 1.6 i probably will take it to miko to get it ve'd though, or at least get the engine and trans from him

yea bro i hear ya on the lettin other folks work on your ride.. i let my friends help me cause they want to learn, an i dont mind teachin.. plus it sucks doin shit by myself.. i always go over everything they do to make sure its good tho..

if i lived near miko an didnt have time to work on my own ride.. he'd be the only person i'd let swap a motor in my ride... cuz when ya get it back from him, it would be perfect.. no janky crap..

check out the FSM. page MT-46. when inspecting the viscous coupling check the case for cracks and the SILICONE OIL for leaks. now, if the vlsd were NOT a sealed unit why would you check it for LEAKS? and do you use a silicone based lubricant? no. look at the disassembly/reassembly drawings.
