On the road to 200whp.
That's really all I want from this B13- 200 at the wheels. I think it will run 13s easily at that point (or at least feel like a 13 second car- I'll probably never track it). 200whp is the exact point at which you have to ask yourself- should I go 20VE+N1 or a basic turbo kit? Decisions decisions...

Turbo has the advantage of probably being cheaper, especially if I bought some used parts from the forum. Avenir manifold T25 front mount at 6 or 7 psi will make 200hp, no?

VE has the gas mileage and coolness factor advantage of sick N/A power.

Turbo has the downside of worse gas mileage and the complications of a turbocharged car. But it makes huge power under the curve while the VE needs to spin a bit more.

Whatwhatwhat would you do?

for that goal I would just go VE and bolt ons

Maybe i'm wrong but I don't think your are going to get the best mileage or driveability out of a 200whp de. Also how much money do you want to spend, and how much do you actually know about engine building? If the answer to both is "not much" then you better reconsider.

Turbo gas mileage really isn't that bad.... as long as you lay off the pedal.

I hate these open ended threads. Give us something to work off of atleast?

Budget?

Knowledge?

Place to work on your car?

Daily driver?

id stick with a VE, IMO either build will cost about the same. after both cars are complete its up to maintance, turbo car vs VE Bolt w/bolt ons.....with a VE you also have less of a chance of breaking the tranny going threw clutches blowing turbos couplers axles (just more) things to break....

on the other hand a turbo car could up boost(i know u said just 200, but it will happin) and make more power at the turn of a dial

Start with a VE. You're not far away from greatness then. VVL just potentiates your gains every time you add a bolt on...

yea i would go the ve route and have a good base to build off off.. once 200whp isnt fast enough for you, then you can always slap on a basic turbo setup for some more hp fun. wish i would have gone this route from the start.
