Thread: Car jerks around while driving

Please let me know what your findings are. That is crazy that can be my problems.

It always does it when I am off the throttle, it does not always happen but I can make it happen most of the time while cruising around 55 and stomping it for a little and letting off. Weird.

Finally found my culprit. It took more time for it to worsen. Passenger side ball joint is shifting and causing my problems. Time for a new joint or might as well as get a new lower control arm while I am down there...

Ball joints,tie rods and alignment

Winner. I bet the inner tie rods are shot.

Hey Viprdude, I have the same problem with my 91. I just had a new steering rack put in with new rack bushings, so I know the problem is not related to the rack or those bushings. Were you ever able to figure out what was causing this "slop"?

Sound like the alignment is out assuming you have this isseu on the highway switching lanes over the "crowns" in the lanes ? If the toe and camber is out of spec you will experiance this alot it will pull quick and go right back to normal . I would get a alignment check first to be sure .

When I swapped out the bum ball joint, steering tightened up.

ball joints do take the brunt of the impacts, so they were out quicker than most of the other parts in the front end.

Any updates ? Have you jacked up the front end and checked everthing loaded and non loaded ?
