The cork gasket on my car weeps pretty bad, but I'm using synthetic I'm loosing about 1/4 quart in a week (which is about 2000 miles),
.
on my 1.6L the conventional oil does not weep so bad through the cork gasket

X2 i dont recomend corks also. they sweep though the gasket unless you cover it in rtv.

I think Dan Martin liked the black stuff just because it was black. I don't think there's any problems using it for the lower oil pan (where there is low torque on the bolts). I don't think his engine has seen oil yet though.

The Ultra Grey RTV is supposedly designed for mating surfaces with high torque on the mating bolts like the upper oil pan and a few other places. I think Nissan just figured it's good enough for that, it's more than good enough for everything else. Why bother telling people to use two or three different sealants when we can just recommend one?

Anyway, what's your problem with Grey RTV? You allergic? =]

Black is for high oil resistance, I have used every color under the Permetex rainbow
Here is their site if you want to see what each color is for

I do like the right stuff because you don't have to wait on it forever to dry.

Nissan uses their own stuff that you can get at the stealer-ship for like $17 a tube works good though.
