Its not necessarily rod. Pinpoint the cylinder by disconnecting the injector clip one by one and rev it. If none of them stop the noise its not a rod bearing if, if the noise ceases after removing a certain clip and reving it then its definetly rod bearing.

Do the test and get back with me.

Simple and effective way.

and yeah ve motors sometimes like to pop out the shims for some reason. Had it happen on a buddies car.

sounds like shims... ganna take the car to the shop tomarrow.

I just talked with him on the phone. He told me the noise was still there after pulling the injector clips one by one. So more than likely its a rocker shim popped out. Which i believe with the stock s&r's and sr16 cams being held at almost 7k for an extended period of time. Probably floated the valves slightly enough to pop a shim.
