Can't get the starter off me NX. Grrrr!
So, i’ve tried bangin on in, threading a bolt back on & bangin on that, screwdriver to the ear of the starter & bangin on that. The starter seems welded to the trans. :-(
Other than a blowtorch to the trans/starter interface (my next thought) anybody got any ideas?
Besides pulling the trans, not worth it on teh beater, she will get parted at that point.

Are you sure you took out the correct two bolts from under the intake?

Yes, they both should be 14mm. Not 14mm and 17mm

Yeah, i think they the right bolts, both 14mm.
I soaked the entire area with PB blaster so maybe it will loosen up. Then there’s still the blowtorch.
If not, that’s prolly it for this rusty commuter.

Starter in my experience is one of those things that just needs some decent leverage and a bit of elbow grease to get it done. Sometimes I need a light tap on the starter itself with a rubber mallet, but thats it. Light tap. If you're banging on this thing and it isn't moving in the least, I'd start to wonder if it wasn't overtightened and mashed into the transmission housing.

Hopefully the PB gets it done, but if it doesn't, pulling the transmission is unfortunately but realistically the next step.

Oh, i’ve reconnected the power and managed to get it to kick over for a couple of seconds and it still won’t move.
*sigh*
It’s funny, had the opposite problem with das vagon once. The starter bolts loosened and backed out so it wouldn’t catch to turn her over.

Nope, not worth it.
Body’s a little too rusty, the engine is tired. Was hoping to make 200K and through the next winter, but if not .... she’s lived a good life.

Had this problem before. take a rubber mallet and tap on the starter. It should come loose. If it does not take the handle and wedge it under the back side and gently push up.
