engine compatibility
So i have a 96 200 and it doesnt have an engine harness (need one) but i have a 91 highport motor that i am going to fix up and put in there since there isnt a motor in it as we speak. now my question is what needs to be done to put that motor in there? stupid question i think but i am trying to figure it out. as far as sensors go. because its an obdI does it matter that the car was set up for an obdII? especially since i want to use all the stock functions.. cluster,ac, radio, everything. how would i do think and what would possibly need to be done? i have a steering rack in there. i have a radiator and fans. the motor i have used to have abs from the car it was in and it had an lsd tranny, neither of whch i have. the fans i have are 98 radiator fans. i believe thats everything, im trying to give as much info as possible here, even if its meaningless.

Thanks.

Put a obd2 harness in the motor does not care what harness you use.

Well if the State you live in does not have emissions then I would go find an OBD1 engine harness and ECU. It is easier to work with and easier to tune. You can also get ahold of an aftermarket ECU easier.

Very true. I would go obd1 if you don't have emissions to worry about.

well i dont have emissions. but i already have an ecu. but its obdII. now my guage cluster and everything will work with obdI? and what about the speed sensor? its not the same. and does anybody know of or have an engine harness for sale?

if you already have a odb2 ecu you should use the obd2 harness. Yes everything will work with a obd1 harness. I have used a obd1 ecu in a b15. Took some extra time to wire it properly though.

okay well getting an obd1 ecu shouldnt be a problem but basically your saying that all in all it should be better that i put obd1 in there not obd2. but will everything as far as sensors and everything on the motor and all work with the obd2?

Yes. There are not that many different sensors. You will need the crank angle sensor on the front of the transmission bell housing for OBD2. You have the 96' distributor and MAF right? Your EGR should plug right in also. You will need to put a resistor on the connector for EGR temperature sensor (do a search on the old forum should net some good results). Your best bet to answer your questions is download the FSM from NICOclub (search this forum with give you the link) for 91'-94' sentra and 95'-98' 200sx and compare sensors. Basically, keep your old engine if you have it, drop the new one in, get it running (it will run even if you don't plug in some of the emissions crap), then start figuring out your CEL codes and getting the other crap plugged in/removed.

Honestly, you have nothing to worry about. These engines are very easy to swap over and sensors are some of the least of your worries. Getting the engine bolted up and running is harder then clipping on a few plugs.

This is a good thread. I'm planning swapping in a '99 p11 Lowport DE. I've had the motor for a while now and sittin on an engine stand.

Its gonna be swapped into my 92 B13. Going from GA to SR.

Well I'm not sure what engine harness and dash harness to use for this set-up. I'm gonna use B14 upper intake manifold which has less hoses than the '99 SR. I dont really care about the emissions stuff. This set up is gonna be organic with no power steering, no abs, no a/c, and a minor wire tuck as well.

Anybody use Lowport B14/P10 engine harness in a B13?

It will work fine. You will need an SR distributor, MAF, engine wiring harness, and ECU. You might need an SR alternator also. I don't know about the dash cluster. You will need SR motor mounts, SR cross-member, SR tranny, and SR axles. While your at it you might also swap your back drum brakes for SE-R disc brakes & MC. There might be a few other things but I cant think of them.
