95 p10 auto tranny losing 4th gear
my 95 automatic p10 recently has been losing 4th gear. it would drive fine for a little bit, then once in a while, it would drop back down to 3rd gear. it may go back the 4th in a few minutes, but most of the time, it will stay in 3rd. i would like some info if anyone knows the possible causes. i posted on g20.net, but no one had any information. the only possible cause i read was that the overdrive band is going out in the tranny, and that eventually 4th/overdrive will fail all together. replacing the transmission with a low mileage one should work. i also read that it can be other sensors that could be the problem. if someone with experience could tell me that it "IS" in fact the transmission, then i will look for one and get it replaced.

if you have gears going in and out then your tranny is toast!. It will start with 4th then you will start losing gears left and right. I wouldnt drive the car much. But if you do dont drive it like you stole it. It happen to my friends p10. Of course he was turboed but after he kept driving it the tranny just basically fell apart

update: i have not been able to find a transmission at the local junk yards yet. i have not been driving the car much, mostly just about three miles a day to work and back. i did take a 10 mile drive and there was no problems at all with the transmission. also, the back and forth to work, there hasn't been much problems, except for one or two times where 4th doesn't go in. is it 100% that the transmission is going out? is there any sensors/solenoids that could be the problem? because the transmission drives nice and smooth normally, until once in a while when the 4th gear/overdrive doesn't kick in.
