no power to fuel pump problem...
hey guys. figured id just throw this out there.

i can seem to figure this out. pump works when i touched it to a battery. fuze under the dash is good, pump relay was swapped out with the relay next to it wich was for the fog lights. still nothing.

cant get any power at the black wire with the red stripe going into the fuel pump plug.

i do have power at the plug that measures the fuel level (float)

i am by no means a wiring wizard. is there any other fuzes/relays im missing ? i went threw the fsm and this is all i could figure out. the wires all seem intact.

im going to hard wire it to a switch of the batery in a bit to make sure the car fires etc.

Take your multimeter, and check for resistance (in ohms) from the hot wire for the pump, to the relay contact base (pull the relay out)

If it doesn't register any resistance, then the wire is cut somewhere. If it registers, but it's high in resistance, there could be some damage that would need be tracked down in the wire.

make sure the socket that the relay plugs into is not bad. If the relay over heats it melts the base and will cause this issue. do the resistance check. Any thing over .3ohms is a issue. then do a continuity check for each contact point on the relay socket contact points. Also that relay is triggered by the ignition switch so make sure you are getting a signal with the key on.

yeah, ill try that tomorrow.

todays main objective was to make sure the motor runs. hard wired the pump to the battery with a switch on the nuetral side. motor takes some tapping the gas to get going but she turns on and after that sounds and idles fine. replaced the vc gasket that was leaking on cylinder 3 & 4.

the rpm and mph gauges on the tach now dont work, checked the fuses under the dash and everything is ok. except the signal fuse wich the fuse itself is fine but has no power going into it. tomorrow ill check the fusable link/relays agian, although i checked them yesterday just for power wich they had.

im happy the motor runs and like i said seems to be fine. tomorrow ill do a compression test just for kicks.

sorry for the novel.

I'm voting for a bad or missed ground for the ECU. It will cause your gauges to stop working because there isn't a ground reference, and will cause your pump not to turn on because, well, the ECU isn't really on, ever.

One problem that fits all the symptoms. House M.D. would probably agree to put your engine bay on ground therapy as well.
