power steering flush
well i guess im an idiot.. i had no idea our p/s pumps used atf lol.. i did wonder why it was always red..

i've been running just whatever power steering fluid i could find.. but my pumps been whining lately (actually for a long time now) an when i say whine i mean like, when i take off slowly but rev to 4-5 k in 1st an second you can hear the whine.. it does it in 3rd an fourth too but i usualy dont rev it up that high in those gears.. i dont think its the transmission because the sound comes from the passenger side of the car..

so i've done some searching an cant really find any info on flushing the power steering system.. i wanna get that crap out an put ATF in an see if it helps..

has anyone done this before?

has anyone had the whine im having?

(i will have to do this to my gf's g20 also)

You need something that will suck the fluid out.

You basically suck it all out, fill it with fress fluid, turn the wheel a bunch of times, then start again.

Most se'rs flush themselves from the racks leaking.

I've never put ATF fluid in the PS pump. Although, I would guess most hydraulic-type fluids would work without a hitch. I typically just buy the cheapest PS fluid I can find at the parts store.

There's nowhere to really drain the fluid out. Although it's a bit slow, my method has always been grabbing a small clear hose, and gravity siphoning (or pump siphoning) the reservoir while the car is on. Drain it all the way down, until it starts running low, fill it back up with fresh. Crank the wheel from lock to lock a few times, repeat until the fluid starts to look clean.

hmmm.. sounds like a huge pain in the butt lol.. guess i'll figure it out.. lol

my gf's g20 is leakin it out so fast i dont think it'll be a problem to flush hers.. i think if i just start using ATF in a matter of a day or two it'll be all atf lol..

i just need to replace her copper washers i think (i hope)

If you have a really good impact gun you can take the lower nut off the power steering pressure hose. You will need new copper washers (I was all over the city and napa had the closest size, just bring your old ones in)
