Knocking sound during turns Need some Ideas
Hey everyone. My 92 XE just started to make a loud knock when turning. I mostly hear it when turning right but I've heard it a few times in the opposite direction.

I've noticed that it happens during slow speed, high torque situations. Such as starting from a stop sign and then heavy steering to the right.

My first thought was an axle is shot. I looked at the boots for the two shafts and they are all still in good shape.

Just trying to get some ideas of what else it could be if not a CV joint. Also has anybody ever had a CV joint start knocking with the boots still intact?

Are they the OEM axles/boots? Its not unheard of for the joints to fail without the boots breaking, especially if its a remann'd axle.

Otherwise, I'd put my money on bad wheel bearings.

From what I can tell the axles are aftermarket. They don't have the weight in the middle of the shaft like the OEM units do.

I was also thinking wheel bearing.

Well I swapped in a new drivers axle. The knocking has gone away. I'll have to wait and see if the knocking returns. Otherwise problem solved.
