I will leave it as a personal preference sort of thing. I did work for a company that was subcontracted by UTC and Honeywell. I have never had a solder joint fail on me. Crimping is easier but make sure to use the ones that have a sort of shrink wrap built in to keep out the elements.

it's not a matter of personal preference really.. in aviation, when people's life depends on the splice.. we were taught by the best of the best to use quality butt splices.. not the crap you get at autozone.. but good stuff.

what i notice with soldering esp small wire is that that area solder becomes very hard and resists flexing, if the harness is in an area where theres gonna be flexing 90% of the time the wire will break right before the solder because that area doesnt flex. but i use both methods depending on what i am doing

+1 for the heat shrink butt connectors.

and brush on electrical tape. stuff works great
