...and that's the end of that Tranny
Went down to the 1/8th, last night. ****ty night, crowded as hell, cars breaking down left and right, I managed to get in 3 runs, then I had some trouble, and called it a night. 1st gear was a joke, 2nd gear was a joke, 3rd gear took some time. As I estimated, I was spinning all the way to the end of the track. On the 3rd run, I missed 3rd and boy did I take that engine/tranny for a ride.

I drove back to the lot, parked for a few to help my buddy, and then I noticed some pools of tranny oil. I could tell my CV was toast, but I would have to lift the car up this afternoon to see the damage. It seems that I tore part of the housing from the differential, I have no idea the extent of the internal damage, and I'm a little worried about the valvetrain, although the engine still runs fine and drives fine. I managed to drive the car home in this condition.

BTW, the best I was able to pull off was 9.3 @ 86. My 60' was 2.2 all night. Time for some tires. Oh, and time for a new VQ tranny.

ah man that sucks ,, really hate to hear this!!!

but at the same time I might have dodged a breakdown but not going last night....

I was at the point of writing the directions down and jumping in the car..

the 2 hour drive was the deciding factor of me not making it....

what was the track like??? must have been real slick huh?

again , sorry to hear!

Right after me, some Honda also busted his tranny, gear oil all over the track, took about 30 minutes or more to clean up, all the while, the line of cars had to be about 150+ cars strong.

BTW, It's bad enough I need to get a new VQ tranny, I really hope the engine is OK. What's the best way to tell how the valves are doing without tearing the engine down?

The track sucked. I managed to make a 3.0 60 ft while spinning the whole way as well. I also suck at drag racing though. It was not a good night for Nissans at all.

Compression test should give you an idea if the valves are damaged or not. It should work as long as your rings are still good.

Good point. I will check the compression when I get a moment. I know I have some base numbers somewhere.
