Some FWD Tranny Things To Think About
I have a few trannys laying around and I was looking at them and found a very strange thing.

The B13 and B14 LSD trans has a metal pin or pipe running between both axles. You can clearly see this if you have both axles out and take a look you will see this.

On the SR16VE N1 Tranny I have there is nothing in there, it is a clear shot so you can see right through the trans.

So I ws wondering if the standard SR16VE tranny is like that so if anyone has a standard SR16VE tranny laying around can you take a look and see if it is straight through or does it have a divider pipe - pin

The 98 SE-R isn't LSD, and the pipe you're referring to is present in my gearcase, Dre.

EDIT:

I know you weren't asking that, but I felt I'd let you know anyway.

SR16VE and Autech Tranny have cross pins.

N1 Diff part number: 38411-70E03

Same diff as:

Y11, B13, B14, N15, P11, R10, R11, WP11, U14 and W10...

If you have no pins its an aftermarket diff. Ie a cusco or Nismo. If its a nismo, check the casing of the box. If the box is old school casing - ie without oil cooling fins, then its probably nismo box with nismo cluster in there.

Autech I have seen pics of a Nismo box and it did have cooling fins on it like the standard SR16VE box.

One thing we can be sure of is that it has a diffrent diff.

Ok guys check this out. I think below is a pic from a Nissan FSM. If you look closely there is a listing for the N1 motor with standard SR16VE gear box and it is said to come with 185/65/14 tires.

Beloe we see another listing for the N1 from the Nissan FSM and it has the Nismo gear ratio and it is stated to come with 195/55/15 tires

I never thought to look in the 16 VE trans I had so I can't speak on that, just sold both of them. I do know the B15 & P11 LSD trans have that same divider thing like the B13 & 14 trans.

so looks like the n1 has shorter gears all overs except 1st. i would imagine the tire size plays a little here.
