Yes I use it on the block, upper, and lower pans. I actually use a wire wheel in a drill, just called it a wire brush above.

On the aluminum I've tried copper scrapers but end up using a razor blade and a nice pick for the inside groove. For the lower pan (steel) the wire brush works well. I like the motorized wire brush ideas already mentioned.

I've used an old cut up library card. I cut a pattern to get into the groves. It doesn't damage any of the surfaces.
