Sounds alot like rod knock to me. Does it change or disappear at certain RPMs? If you could get a video in daylight and sort of pan around close to the engine, I'd like to see if we can localize where it's coming from exactly. But, it does sound a hell of alot like rod knock.

i think theres different levels of rod knock, my last motor had the quiet at idle an got louder with rpms knock, my girlfriends G20 has a knock that is only audible around 2800-3000 rpms not below or above, the engine my car came with when i got it had the knock no matter what knock.. at idle at rpm no matter what it was terrible.. thats the one that cracked the block in half

We did a motor swap on DCScotty car just recently. His car sounded exactly like that. I thought it was the head and messed wit his HVLA and did some shimming to no avail. One day we were driving up to Jenc shop and that same ticking in that video turned into a thump thump thump. It's rod knock time for a motor swap unfortunately.

I like to take the source video file and put the audio into an audio editing program that will show the waveform. Then you can count how many ticks there are per second and compare that to the rpm. If it is the same as the rpm it's something in the bottom end. Likely rod knock. If it's half engine speed it's something in the head. Likely failed hydraulic valve lash adjuster or a bent valve.

It's still highly likely that it's salvageable. Pop the bottom end apart and check the bearing mating surfaces on the crank for any damage. If the crank's still good, just replace the bearings and start driving again!

x2. If you catch it early enough, there's a good chance it's fixable. Just don't drive it, or even run it unless it's absolutely positively life-or-death necessary.
