Gas additives for high octane
No I have heard alot of gas additives were junk so this applys to those chemicals you buy from the janitor supply store. Which additives are safe? what measurement do you add to each gallon of gas? What octane rating do they provide when mixed.

The last 7 items on the octane list (not including hydrogen) are safe bets, but how much of it you need to raise the octane and keep the A/F ratios in check are missing factors. Also finding them pure is hard. Toluene seems to be the easiest/cheapest and is the main ingredient in most octane boosters I believe (along with xylene). If you had 5 gallons of 93 octane (US) gasoline in your tank and put 5 gallons of toluene (that's a whole lot of toluene!) in I think you'd end up with 98 octane... But I could be wrong...

Isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol / rubbing alcohol) is easy to find (drug stores) in 90%+ purity but isn't terribly cheap. It would take a little less of it to raise the octane but still I think it's a bit nutty of an idea.

Methanol would be nice to use but I don't know how to get a hold of it easily other than mixed 50/50 with water (windshield washer fluid).

I have heard toulene before, . I heard a rumor that it damages your fuel injectors fuel injectors over time, is this true? What about something common like rubbing alcohol would that have a effect on octane.

See my edits above on rubbing alcohol.

A bit of toluene (like in octane booster bottles) isn't going to hurt anything. 5 gallons might.

the isopropyl will evap all the water that might be in the gas which is nice, that is hwere you see products like HEET or iso heet come into play, where their job is to take the water out of the gasoline you might be running, not sure on how much the additive might raise fuel, but like ben said it wouldnt be a very cheap alternative as getting say a gallon of it, might not be cheap
