Engine shuts down randomly
Some days ago, I parked the car in the garage, left the engine running, while I went into the house to quickly pick up some stuff, when I got back into the car, the engine was not running WTF, didn't care much, and started the car, it started normally, and left, everything seems normal, acceleration out of boost, and on boost, doesn't stall.... but then waiting for a green light, the engine just turned it self off!!, no bogging or anything it did it just like if I turn the ignition off, it was idling perfectly.

Now it happens when:

-The engine is at normal operating temperature, it doesn't happen while its cold.
-After idling for like a minute.

Things I notice:

-The AFR's are perfect on idle, but then go super rich for less than a second before it shuts down.
-When it is not idling the car runs perfect, with perfect AFR's
-I checked with the nistune and I dont notice any sensor without voltage or something before it shuts down.
-Sometimes it doesnt shut down, but the idle bounces from 500rpm to 1500rpm for like 6 times, then stabilizes.

Thanks for any input..!!

Sounds like something electrical...check sensors and make sure your rad fans turn on.

Sounds like something heats up and loses connectivity, whether it be a loose plug, bad wiring, or bad sensor. I assume you aren't throwing any codes?

Nope, no codes...
I actually sit with my laptop, on the car, monitoring everything waiting for the engine to shut down Lol. All sensors have voltage, even after it shuts down, i leave the ignition on and the sensors still have voltage. When I start the car, it starts right up.

Now, after searching in old threads, I find some people saying it happens due to a bad MAF, but, wouldnt it run like crap accelerating and on boost?

If it is a bad MAF that would be the excuse to upgrade to a Lightning MAF lol But I would be pissed if I change the MAF and the problem is still there...!

yeah it does sound like a maf out of wack. the same thing happened in my P11, intermittently it would shut off without warning, it got more frequent as time went by but never threw a CEL...replaced MAF sensor and it never happened again, to this day it has not shut off and this was like 3 years ago

Ok, it was the MAF indeed, I took it off and it was dirty as hell!!! before thinking about replace it (Z32 MAFs difficult to get here), I cleaned it, put it back and as far as now the engine is not shutting down anymore.

Could you explain what you did to clean it?

Please say that you used MAF cleaner. Anything else would have you run the risk of irreversible damage to the MAF sensor.

Contact cleaner, worked perfectly, drove the car all day long yesterday and the problem is not there anymore.
