They ARE supposed to be even, its not a great design.

That is an area of circulating air, aka air that is just chilling there, not going into the cylinders.

Its just taking up volume and creating turbulence.

They should be even, but it's a side entrance manifold and they all have this problem to one extent or another. Basically the first cylinder is not getting as much air as the rest. It can be designed around, but it's sort of the problem with side entrance manifolds. You have to aim the entrance somewhere, and it either over feeds cylinder 1 or starves it. Generalizing here...

so wouldnt limiting the space for idle air to remain still at...cut back on the amount of circulating air?

That, and a redesign of the entrance of air. But the same problem occurs on our manifolds because of the way the air enters.

bgreen, there are TONS of things you can do to modify the way the manifold flows and where air is stagnant and where it causes trouble. So many little nuances you can change. Way too many to cover here. You're on the right track.

what if the entrance was angled more perpendicular with the runners..thus no bounce space for the air to waste time getting to the runners

Eh either way i can tell the difference over the stock mani and tb. Not just by how much my tires spin, hahaha. I was also referencing 4th gear pull as well. Its a very noticable difference even on the 2 psi less boost. I could use some 225 bfg's but yeah cant afford the tire wear associated with them. I daily drive the car 60 miles round trip to work. Yeah they would not last too long. Not near as long as the 205/50/15's Falken Ziex's. Plus the tires grip well for a street tire. But again there isnt much i can do when 450whp is put to the ground. haha

The best side entrance manifolds (assuming you have room for it in the engine bay and nothing silly happens before the TB) tend to have the entrance angled just about like this.
