Thread: Clutch slipping or cable.

So ive had my clutch for a little over a year and 7 months. probably put on 45,000 miles on it. I have nitrous and I tend to use it alot. 2 nights ago it seemed to just slip completely when I sprayed but it held up fine to driving around off the bottle. Well I figured it was the clutch going out so I just went ahead and ordered a clutch. Today I used the nitrous again and there was no slipping whatsoever.

I am using an aftermarket cable because my stocker had about 90,000 miles on it and snapped one day. It seems like the aftermarket cable is longer because when I put it in the cable guide it kinks up the cable alot. So i need the opinions of people that know more about this than I do.

i would say the clutch is probably slipping, the conditions might be slightly different from when it isnt to when it is slipping

Americo , i would also suggest getting a OEM cable, get one for a B14 1.6 it smaller and fits better.

If your going to redo the clutch change the throw out bearing and clips as well, only OEM nissan my brotha it will save future headaches of having to bring down the tranny to stop the chatter inside the tranny. - dont ask me how i know....

Well knowing the clutch that you are using I think it's that. Pressure plate might be not clamping as hard too. Which I guess could be that your non OEM cable stretched out?

Rodrigo, im using an oem tob. i have chatter because of the 6 puck unsprung disc.

Vadim its probably my clutch or cable or both. I wouldnt be surprised if my clutch is gone. Im addicted to nitrous.

I have the same ACT 6 puck ,with HD PP and Fidanza flywheel.

my chatter was a bad throw out bearing and bent clips.

replaced that and problem solved

is it strange that i had to redrill my bracket to use that 1.6 cable?

I think you are better off with a performance clutch, it sure will be a lot more fun clutch dumping it

If I am not mistaken you are getting a lot of extra HP out of your car and since you want to replace the clutch anyway a clutch that can take more HP then stock also can take more 'abuse' which is just more fun to drive and makes u a bit faster.

Clutch dumping is revving the engine at the trafficlight and then releasing it quickly, in most cases u get better 0-60 times. There is even CarTest software that can calculate the optimum rev for your setup (needs quite a few parameters though) for clutch dumping. Stock clutches die pretty soon with this kind of driving.
