ehh...ive still had good luck with my synchromesh...i do reccomend this thinner gear oil especially if you have grinding issues...i can see where the thicker stuff comes into play

has any one tried the lucas oil stabilizer? just as a thought

WPC need to make a spray can application , they would make a bundle.

The only thing I have used is Redline Shockproof (heavy weight). Only destroyed 4th gear on one transmission and got 5th gear pop out on my original transmission with 145K miles on it after being boosted. Car has been boosted since 2002.

I don't see how my question was stupid

I've used SyncroMesh on my old Z as well (as well as some local racers). It works great if you have hardened syncros that like to grind.

I think if anything, power development and driving style have lots to do with broken trans. I bet a stock NA can munch one if they suddenly gain a lot of traction while doing some high RPM wheel spin.

Did you post on Kojima's article tekkie? I was referring to the posts that are below Kojima's article. Some guys ask about things that were answered in the write up.

I may upgrade to Heavy Shockproof in my recently B15-trannied, naturally aspirated DE, 93' Classic.

I disagree.

The B13/14 are both under engineered, weak-sauce, half-assed transmissions. The latter with a band-aid on a compound fracture.

I have zero "bad habits" that could affect my transmissions. I do not street race, nor drag race, ever. I rarely so much as chirp my tires. No grinding, speed-shifting, leaving my hand on the shift knob, or any other acts known to be bad for the transmission. I've been on one (1) roadcourse in my life. Which, ironically yet not surprisingly, killed the last incarnation of my B13 tranny.

I would assert that is primarily luck of the draw on whether a B13/14 transmission will explode or not.

My plans include a bolted-on VE. Hopefully with my B15-tranny, all four Prothane mounts, a Stage 3 clutchkit from Greg V, and an Andreas Miko Tranny Saver Bracket, my transmission problems are solved long-term to include post VE motor swap.

And I may dump in Redline Heavy Shockproof like Coheed has done.

FYI: Miko's Tranny Bracket:

I also get a kick out of it when Mike K tells folks to, paraphrased, "quit asking or be flamed".

I still think the heavy stuff is overkill unless you spend a lot of time racing the vehicle. Most (myself included) end up spending a lot of time at temps where the fluid is not as effective and thus in the long term hurt the gearbox more than you help it.

I'm actually at 170k on the original stock gearbox. Its taken some abuse but I don't drive it much. All I have is the gen 1 Miko bar .99 clutch spacer and prothanes on a stage 1 clutch.
