Anybody done this before?
Roll a spare engine on to the VC so I can take off the Oil pans?

I don't have an engine stand and don't want to buy one for one use.

Doesn't really sound like a good idea. If you do, be sure you bleed all the lifters afterward or you'll tick like a mofo.

Really you should just buy a stand. They're cheap and they just bolt together. I keep mine in the attic when it doesn't have a motor on it.

They are less than $60 from harbor freight... Find a local store though or you will get raped by shipping.

1. lay down with your knees up.
2. have two friends pick the engine up and set the mid pan on your knees.
3. balance well.
4. begin wrenching!

note: a good idea would be to keep the two friends around just in case. when you unbolt the bottom pan, you will offset the equilibrium.

HAH! I love it!

Don't worry I'm not going to tip it over. I totally forgot about the HLA's, they aren't worth the hassle. So I will find a craigslist stand or something.
