This valve is on/off, it doesn't modulate at all. It is only for allowing air through when the TB is closed. It isn't just for cold starts as was stated before, it is used whenever the car is at idle. It is what allows air past when the TB is closed that is then regulated by the IACV.

Brent, Not correct on this one. You are probably thinking of the IACV/AAC which is controlled by the ECU based on throttle position & other things. Check the FSM. The unit testing procedures completely explains its operation. Neither are on/off valves.

This is the Air Regulator.. It is only open during startup of a cold engine.
This is the one that sits under in Intake Mani.
It has the bi-metal strip that opens with a cold engine and
upon startup is activated for a few minutes and closes.
It stays closed until the engine gets completely cold again..

On very hot days, Ive seen it not open at all AND on very
cold days Ive experienced it opening after only a few hours.
The bimetal movement is controled by the surface temperature & not throttle position.

Sometimes the Air Regulator bimetal sticks Open which causes a constant high idle OR sticks Closed that causes a rough cold engine idle. Partial sticking also causes strange idling.

At this price, this is a real bargan!! A new Air Regulator should last for another 15 years..

I don't have an IACV either... Got rid of it and I have had less issues. Also removed the cold air idle valve. Set your idle with the screw :P.

Got mine yesterday, it does look like its 10 years old haha. The box is pretty old school.

I don't have one either. I do have the iacv, and it causes issues due to the location, and vacuum lines kinking. I'll be relocating it when I pull the motor this fall.

I figured this valve was as useless as the coolant lines to the throttle body, so it got yanked

So this valve isn't totally needed huh? Good to know, I might just yank mine and put a connection fitting in its place then.

I think one thing you may need is an ECU that you can adjust cold idle RPM by? I've never removed it on a car equipped with a factory ECU.

I guess I meant IACV is removed and so is the Air Regulator (idle screw).

Interesting. You don't have an idle adjustment screw? Can you elaborate?
