phuck, the red car will not start
For the record, VQ35DE engine with AEM standalone. Looking for some ideas.

The car has run for almost 2 years great, never a real issue. I was coming home last night, came up on a long empty straight and decided to open it up to, say for example, triple digits, top of 3rd. Then, for some added fun, I slowed down rather quickly (just brakes, not engine, clutch was in). I looked down and the engine had stalled during slow down. I made sure all the electronics were on and popped the clutch in 2nd or 3rd, I read some RPMs on the dash, but the engine didn't kick over. Reset all of my electronics/ECU, tried to pop the clutch again, same thing, RPMS read, but the engine wouldn't hold its own, nothing happened when I pressed the gas.

I also tried clutch in and start with the key, just cranking, no starting. Alternator was running fine at 14-14.5V, new battery. Engine cranks fine, but no start, every so often, I get a LOUD backfire when starting, which is actually somewhat normal on my setup, I have header to resonator to dump.

I pulled out the plugs to check them out. I only pulled 2 plugs so far, will pull the rest later. They were a tad bit loose for my taste, but they looked fine, but old. They look average worn:

I put the boot on, grounded the plug. I am getting a spark, but it looks very weak. Keep in mind, I have individual coil packs. I'm getting +/-12V to the coil and a negative trigger signal. I run a wasted spark, 3 drivers, 6 cylinders, I can't tell if I'm getting both because the spark looks kinda weak. I still think the engine could start on this spark.

I could smell gasoline in the 2 cylinders and a poof of air when I crank. Once I get the I.M. Off I'm going to replace all the plugs and check the compression. What else should I check while I'm at it?

I checked the AEM EMS software on my laptop, I don't know it that well, but I am reading about 150RPM when I crank, the injector signals look fine according to the software, but I didn't do a data analysis.

Are you getting stat sync OK on the AEM EMS when cranking? If not, that is culprit.

I'm not sure.I'll check tomorrow when I have the new plugs. If you have any more ideas, keep em coming.

all this happend when you slammed the brakes... maybe loose wire hit ground n zapped the AEM? i doubt the motor has any problems whatsoever

Yea, that's somewhat my guess, I don't think anything grounded out, tho. The ECU is still good from what I can see, it communicates with my computer and I am seeing a spark/fuel signal.

I'm guessing something came loose, but I haven't found it yet. There's only so many input sensors on a Standalone. MAP sensor looks fine, both cam sensors are on tight, throttle sensor is reading 0-100%, coils and plugs look fine, there's the air temp and coolent temp sensor, a wideband O2 sensor, a knock sensor, and that's about it.

map sensor dirty?

Possibly jumped timing?

as in timing belt? I got a timing chain.

A belt can't jump timing, a chain can. THough that would be extremely rare.

I highly doubt I jumpped timing, but I really don't know. On the VQ35, it's not as simple as popping off the valve cover and looking at the timing marks on the chain.

Anyway, I'm considering it might be a bad MAP sensor. I got 6 new plugs, the old plugs looked fine, but needed replacement. I also checked compression while I had everything off. Here are the numbers:
193, 195, 201, 197, 203, 190psi

With everything back together, I tried again with the laptop hooked to the AEM.

Sync'd Start was ON when cranking, sometimes OFF during a backfire. The engine is struggling to start but can't quite make it. I had a jumper cable on so I didn't kill my battery, but there was plenty of voltage.

Here's what it sounds like.
Crank,Crank,Crank,Crank,Crank,Crank,WHOOOMMM\...Craaaaaaank,Crank,Crank,Crank,Crank,Crank,POP!,Craaaaank,Crank,Crank. etc.

It actually is firing now, the engine will fire like 2 or 3 times before it dies again. I'm getting about 160RPM on the starter, up to 250 when it fires and back to 150-160.

I'll try to take a vid of it trying to start.
