Thread: Grinding noise when cranking engine

I'm pretty sure it's the timing chain. It only does it during a cold start up. If the engine is still warm it'll crank right up with no noise. Even during a cold start with the noise it fires right up just fine. The noise lasts no more than 5 seconds maybe. Oil level is fine and is clean. Doesn't really sound like the valve train, more like a chain sliding against something.
