Anyone had this bolt fail?
I shipped this 10:1 UK motor half way around the world to Australia with me when i moved 7 months ago. I've recently torn the motor down before i install it in the NX i bought here in Oz. It has a documented full service history and 79,000 miles on it when i bought the full car (N14 Sunny/Pulsar GTI) for £125 on ebay (it wasn't legally roadworthy or taxed so i lucked in with being able to trailer it). I never drove the car on the road, but did run it briefly on a private piece of land as fast as i could (about 40mph and 2nd gear) and it felt like a really good motor (but did curiously have reverse gear pop-out at such low mileage). This is the 3rd UK 10:1 motor i've torn down. When i removed the sump pan i found a loose bolt in there!! The support bracket for the oil pick-up. The oil pan was dented as a consequence of me shipping the bottom end in a plastic crate, and appeared to be applying pressure to the pick-up whilst in transit (remember half way around the world by boat). I thought that this bolt had simply come loose from shipping but when i went to re-install the pick-up tonight, bad news, bolt hole in the cradle has stripped which is why the bolt had fallen out. Even worse, there were a few shards of metal in the pick-up, presumably from the stripped threads in the cradle, so this had happened PRIOR TO SHIPPING and when the engine was running in the car before i got it!

Anyone seen this before?
I can't see putting a through bolt and nut on the end as being an option, as the crank counterweight will probably make mince meat of it.

Just drill it a little larger and tap in a new bolt. I wouldn't scrap the motor over that.

Just do a timesert and it will be fine ... Probably the most overlooked issue with these and I believe is the reason we see so many bearing issues ... the last 3 SR swaps I have done have had the pan toutching the pickup when I got them .. I make it a must to pull the lower pan check the clearance !!
